Palin Not Most Qualified: "(McCain) Went for the Political Bullshit About Narratives" - Peggy Noonan. (Video, Analysis).

Not aware they can still be heard, two mainstream conservative Republicans, national-level consultant Mike Murphy (who has worked with both John McCain and Mitt Romney), and Wall Street Journal columnist Peggy Noonan (former primary speechwriter to President Ronald Reagan, and for then-Vice-President George H.W. Bush) express the frustration evidently making itself felt across much of the Republican party as the result of John McCain's selection of Sarah Palin as his vice-presidential running-mate.

"It's not going to work", Mike Murphy says off-camera but on-mike at the end of an interview with MSNBC at the Republican Convention. "It's over" Noonan comments.

Palin isn't the most qualified woman for the job, Noonan says. "I think they went for the, excuse me, political bullshit about narratives."

The two discuss swing-state governors, Noonan mentions that she's spoken to (Governor) Kay Bailey Hutchinson (R- Texas.)

"They're all bummed out" says Murphy; the choice of Palin by McCain? "It's cynical."

Meanwhile, Republican heavyweight, former President and CEO of eBay, potential Republican candidate for Governor of California and McCain's national co-chair Meg Whitman, who was herself talked about as a possible running-mate for John McCain, says the media coverage and vetting of Sarah Palin is completely fair and is not sexist.

(Big hat-tip to the D-Day blog - continuing to do a fine job of reporting and analysis.)
