Live Blogging - Presidential Debate - Final Impressions

Both candidates did a good job in this debate. Neither had a major gaffe.

From a formal debate / scoring prospective, I'd say that Obama won, by bringing up more specifics, responding to McCains comments directly. I also believe that Obama was comfortable, relaxed, comfortable in his own skin.

From a practical perspective, I was concerned about McCain's emotionalism over Henry Kissinger and Iran. How could Henry take a position that is consistent with Obama's?

Foreign policy was seen to be McCain's strong suit. Obama at least held his own. Both men turned in the best performance I've seen from either in a debate this year. All in all, Obama won on points, won on moving the discussion the way he would have wanted, won on lasting impressions. He showed he can be presidential, can hold his own.

Prof CowHen (or is it 'oh holy leader of the Church of Wasssup Now'), I highly agree w/your analysis of the debate. THANKS!

McCain made these comments about lack of experience, and yet they're both Senators. Many could say McCain has too much experience, particularly in policy that has hurt the USA over the long run.
I'd really like Obama to mention some BIG truth items in the USA, like "Hey John, you have 7 houses and 15 cars -- how are you going to feel the economic pinch"? or the ties of Bush & family to US overthrow, or the 9/11 attack & where is the plane that hit the Pentagon, or something that would throw a wallop.

But Obama, as much as I like him and he DEFINITELY outshines McCain, no doubt there, is not very Left Wing. He's a centrist like Clinton, which makes things difficult for radicals like me to get too excited. But i'm voting for him and I support Obama 1000x more.

I just wish Obama could say ONE THING that I fervently believe -- like "we will commit to being FULLY solar and wind by 2020" or "Oil drilling in the USA & overseas is completely destructive of the environment" or "Hugo Chavez actually is not so bad" or similar.
Y'know what I mean?

PEACE - I wanted it then, and I still want it now.
